Your kitchen cabinets are one of the main points of your kitchen, and you wish to have cabinets that are both efficient storage and which look appealing. Sometimes, however, people invest in homes in which the cupboards have definitely seen better days, and they dream of renovating their kitchens by replacing kitchen cabinets with some of the modern ones they’ve noticed in showrooms. Unfortunately, replacing all of your kitchen cabinets with lovely new ones can run into a major amount, and the majority of people don’t have the budget they need to buy expensive, solid hardwood cabinets. There are some methods you can make use of, however, that will give you great-looking kitchen cabinets at a fraction of the price of showroom cabinets.

When it comes to replacing kitchen cabinets, you can visit your local home improvement store, pick out the design and material you’d like to have, and sit down with a sales rep to decide just what you’ll need to buy. The store will also want to send out a contractor who can take measurements of size and make purchase recommendations. This is high level service, and you have to expect to pay a premium price for it. For instance, these salespeople are bound to recommend that the whole cabinet should be replaced, when it’s possible you could be able to get by with just replacing the doors. Sanding and finishing the existing cabinetry takes time, but it isn’t as hard to do as you may think.

Unless your present cabinets are the old metal kind or some type of soft or wood products like MDF and particle board, refinishing them will most likely do the trick. You can even revamp the doors if they’re still in salvageable condition. The doors, however, take the toughest beating by being opened and shut dozens of times every day. You can, however, buy only the cabinet doors and refinish your cabinets to go with the doors, and it will save you hundreds of dollars.

If your cabinets can’t be saved, you’ll need to find other ways to obtain the cabinets you need. To begin with, you could try salvage yards. These are places that sell used materials, and sometimes you can really be awed at what you will find, because people get rid of some super nice items. If you can locate a set of cabinets at a salvage yard that you can fix up, you might wind up with cherry or walnut or some other expensive wood in your kitchen after all.

You can also try going to lumber liquidator stores. These stores sell unused items at low prices. A whole room full of brand new oak cabinets can actually cost you just pennies on the dollar. You’ll be required to do your own measuring and installation, or you can hire a contractor to measure and build them in for you. However you do it, your kitchen will appear brand new, and you will not have invested a fortune replacing kitchen cabinets.
