Staging Of Your Home

September 29, 2009 By: Mister Fixit Category: Bathroom No Comments →

Home staging is the art of preparing a property for sale. However, home staging is not as easy as many people lead themselves to believe. In order for a property to be successfully staged, there are a lot of things that need to be kept in mind. Above all, house staging is the art of designing a home to appeal to the highest number of buyers possible. This often means decorating in a way that does not necessarily appeal to you.

If you are planning on doing your own house staging project, the first step is to take care of the exterior of the property. Curb appeal is vital in selling a home. The grass should be trimmed, any brushes or trees properly pruned. The exterior surfaces of the home should be washed or painted as needed. The exterior is the first impression of the property, and needs to be handled with care. A good impression of the exterior can lead to an even better impression of the interior.

Home staging is a blend of cleaning service and decoration. Inside the home, it is vital that every surface is completely cleaned. From floor to ceiling, wall to wall, every space must be dusted, washed and tidied for presentation. A clean home is vital in making a good first impression. A good first impression is even more important in securing the highly desired sale. When preparing the interior, neutral colors should be the star of the property, with accents, such as candles, lamps, rugs and vases, providing splashes of warming, inviting colors.

There are three parts of the property that home staging efforts typically focus on. First is the entryway. This room is where first impressions are made. The entry should be extremely clean and organized in such a way where it is easy for the buyer to imagine themselves living in. As buyers will often decide if they are interested in a property within a minute of seeing the first few rooms, the entry is integral towards making the sale.

The kitchen and bathroom are also vital in making a sale. These rooms should be extremely clean. Every corner should be dusted, washed and prepared for viewing. This is particularly true of the kitchen, where the buyer will expect to spend a great deal of their time. In the bathroom, the grout between the tiles should be spotless, and every tile cleaned in the shower or bath.

Different Ways to Create a Handicap Manageable Bathroom

September 24, 2009 By: Mister Fixit Category: Bathroom No Comments →

Whether someone has been in an accident, a child is born with a physical disability or an aging parent transfers into a house, there may come a time when it is necessary to make a bathroom handicap accessible. Besides eliminating the Fabric Shower Curtain and theShower Curtain Rods , homeowners can make simple changes to help adapt their bathrooms for easier use. By expanding doorways, installing hand rails and removing all clutter, homeowners are able to create handicap accessible bathrooms that [won't cost a fortune|don't cost a lot of money] and can be completed in a small amount of time.
A typical doorway needs to be widen to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers and other devices that help with getting around. By removing the door jam and replacing it with a wider version, a home owner can also make the choice to eliminate the door all together or make the change to a pocket door. This is a door that slides into the wall, allowing additional space in the room. Removing the door allows the handicap person to have additional room to maneuver in and out of the bathroom and also eliminates the need to have hands to operate the door itself. Being hands-free and able to get in and out of the bathroom on their own, gives the handicapped person the freedom to use the bathroom without help from someone else in the home.
The putting in of handicap rails in and around the bath and toilet are necessary for all handicap accessible bathrooms. These rails provide assistance to people when trying to lift themselves up and down. They also give protection for them while maneuvering around the bathroom. Whether they are drying off from a bath or just trying to stand up from using the restroom, it is imperative they have the necessary tools to support themselves. Again, adding this type of change to a bathroom gives them the personal freedom to do this type of task by themselves. It is not only liberating for them to feel this independence, it is also a huge safety benefit to add these precautionary measures.
A third change a homeowner can make in a bathroom to make it more handicap accessible is to remove all the clutter. It is important to get rid of all rugs, garbage cans, towels and other things that get in the way of the mobility of a handicap person in a bathroom. Not only can a rug be a nuisance for a wheelchair, walker or crutches, it can also be a safety hazard for someone when exiting the bath or getting up from the commode. If a homeowner must have a rug of some sort in their bathroom, they must buy a commercial grade skid resistant mat. These are located at any large home improvement store or medical supply company. This type of floor covering is made to create a safe environment in which handicap people can still get around.
Although most homes aren’t currently handicap accessible, by completing the suggestions above, a homeowner can change their lavatories with little cost and construction. By doing this the homeowner can have peace of mind as to the safety of their handicapped family member.

Simple Organization Solutions for Cramped Spaces

September 09, 2009 By: Mister Fixit Category: Bathroom No Comments →

If we ensure available space for everything, then it’s much easier to keep things in their proper places. This is central to the interior design that organized people want in their homes. If you are living in a place with limited space and clutter is becoming a serious issue, then you might as well start looking at wall storage systems as a major feature of your remodeling project. The privy, being one of the most problematic parts of the home, must also need some remodeling to give way for small bathroom storage to organize all the assorted items that clutter the lavatory.

The key to your success is the use of the appropriate furniture and cabinets that will easily solve any clutter issue while maintaining balance of the elements of your interior design. The most effective way to maximize the use of very limited space is to make clever use of built-in or recessed shelves and fixtures. You have to remember that you don’t necessarily have to go big just to hide away the clutter in your home. Recessed cabinets and fixtures provide an added bonus since they add aesthetic value of your home with the proper design and finish.

Your privy is the most ideal place to start the task and you can start off by looking at recessed fixtures that are currently in place. Obviously, you will find the toilet paper holder and the recessed medicine cabinet. From these recessed fixtures, you can explore other options where you can also install additional recessed cabinets or shelves. Useful and popular options include recessed towel holders and shelves, cabinets and tissue box holders. By opting for the recessed fixtures, you end up saving a lot of space and this means more elbow room for you despite the very limited space in your privy.

You can also carry on with this approach to space utilization in every room in the house. You can add recessed compartments where you can place your books and other items that tend to clutter your living room. The bookcases can be designed to suit your décor. You can also go short or tall depending on the overall theme of your interior design. You may also seriously consider the glass-covered fixtures so that cleaning will be a breeze. It is also important to emphasize that these recessed compartments are not only designed for books as you can also use them to organize other items and things that you need to place in your living room. You can carefully design compartments with the appropriate shelves so that you can use them to store and organize CDs and DVDs.

With all these design options that you can consider when doing home remodeling, you really have no excuse if you still encounter problems in organizing your things and removing the clutter in your home. It is essential that you look for additional space without having to resort to major home construction.

Simple Steps for an Environmentally Friendly Bathroom

September 08, 2009 By: Mister Fixit Category: Bathroom No Comments →

Do you have a green bathroom? If you’ve answered “Yes, my bathroom walls have green paint,” then I’m afraid you’re a little behind my friend. What I’m talking about is whether or not your bathroom is environmentally friendly.

There are more eco-friendly products available today than ever before. This is certainly good news, and the success and growing popularity of reusable bags shows that people will adopt changes in their habits if they see a benefit. However, there is always more that we can all do. The focus of this post is to talk about some things you can do in your bathroom to make it greener.

1. Use Less Water

Water conservation is a bigger deal than most people might think. It takes energy to heat water, and unless you are using all solar or wind energy all the time, you are burning fossil fuels in order to have hot water and a toilet that does not sweat in the summer. Consider switching to a low-flow shower head or even a water-conserving toilet in order to both save water overall and decrease energy usage. (If you have a water bill, your savings will help pay for switching.) Get into the habit of conserving water during your daily routine. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth, shaving your legs, or waiting for your conditioner to do its job. In the bath, consider not filling the tub as high as possible. Use the lowest water temperature you can stand while showering, and set a timer for three minutes. (If you can’t get your body clean in three minutes, there is a problem!) And if you have kids, train them from an early age to use the timer otherwise they will be in the shower until the hot water runs out.

2. Lights

Use CFL light bulbs and natural lighting when possible. Use night lights that have an automatic sensor so they aren’t being used during the day.

3. Personal Care Products

You should also consider looking in to the growing number of eco-friendly personal care products that are on the market. Everything from lotions to shampoo to cosmetics can now be found with a green twist. The natural ingredients used in these products are also better for your body and skin and are better for our environment in both their production and afterlife (once they go down the drain). However, do your best to ensure that you’re not buying products that are tested on animals. Bonus points if you can find containers made from recycled materials.

4. Towels

When your towels need to be replaced, purchase towels made from organic cotton or hemp. Old towels can be given to animal shelters for clean-ups and bedding. Hang your towels properly to dry after bathing so that you can re-use the towel. When it is time to wash towels, make sure you do a full load of laundry (saves energy costs) and use biodegradable, natural laundry detergent.

These are just a few examples of things you can do in one small room of your house to make it more eco-friendly. Simple steps like this, and doing things like using organic cotton totes for your shopping, are the sort of things that add up to make a big difference.

Hints On How To Maintain Your Flooring

One of the most important elements of an effective Sacramento house cleaning service is a true knowledge of the various cleaning conditions and requirements of the home. One of the major aspects of the activity is the Sacramento carpet cleaning service. It is essential that you know all the important facts and information that are needed in order to make an informed choice in the type of service required in cleaning this most important part of the home.

A great reason to purchase a floor cover is to catch and accumulate dirt and other debris. These small particulates get into the fiber material and are lodged there until they are physically removed through a specific method of floor cover cleaning. These accumulated particulates will go down all the way to the bottom and base of the floor rug. If you want to see this for yourself, try lifting the floor cover [to get an idea of|because you will quickly find} what we mean when we say that the floor cover accumulates dusts and debris.

In time, the floor cover deteriorates as the dusts and debris abrade the fiber material of the floor cover. This is the main cause of deterioration of the floor cover. It is only made worse by increased traffic. This only means that the deterioration of the floor cover is hastened with the increase in foot traffic. The fiber materials of floor covers also tend to collect organic soiling and grease. It can also hold down odorous smells. This is the reason why it reeks if the floor cover is left unattended for extended period of time.

Maintenance and care of floor cover must be taken seriously. Indecision and inaction can lead to a lot of wastage and in the end you will regret not better maintaining your floor cover. Conquering the Consumer Market

August 25, 2009 By: Mister Fixit Category: Bathroom No Comments →

Back twenty years ago, going to the store was much simpler than it is today. They have reached a new height in the competitive market. Companies shoot out new products to compete with other ones like Toilet paper dispensers shoot out toilet paper. Walking into the store can be jarring. You may be looking at paper towels and one looks normal while the other is dolled up and called Microfiber cleansing cloth. Is there a difference? Is one better than the other? Sometimes it seems likes it would be easier to just fill your house with Hand dryers. Naturally this makes grocery shopping a little difficult for novice shoppers. There are many ways to assure you will get good quality things for a good price. Following are some shopping tips that are bound to expand your wallet.

The biggest thing that worries all of us is which brand to pick. How can me know which to pick when staring at five brands of window cleaners on the wall? Some people just go for the cheapest brand while other wont get anything other than the one their mom used. Both tendencies can be a dangerous move. If you buy the brand your mom uses it is obviously older, meaning its probably more famous and more expensive. The cheapest product often doesn’t perform up to par. If you are worried which product is best, look at reports online. The website rates products on their effectiveness and price value. People who write them are just like you and want great products of a great price.

Well another issue shoppers face is once they have their brand picked out, how can they save money on it? Groceries and things are expensive, and it can be really hard to make ends meet. Luckily, there are always ways to cheat the system. The word coupon is like gold for smart shoppers. There are a lot of ways you can find good coupons for the things you want. The easiest place to find coupons is your local paper. The paper also has sale notifications in it along with coupons. I suggest starting to read the paper if you don’t right now. If not the paper, use the internet.
There are a lot of places to get coupons from the internet. There are free, printable coupons posted on a lot of websites. There are coupon sites you can sign up for and get hundreds of saving opportunities. They require you to pay a fee, but it is inconsequential in comparison to the money you save.

It doesn’t have to scare you to go grocery shopping. It’s like playing a sport or going to war. If you have your battle gear on you’ll be fine. You will survive if you know what you want. If you know what sales to hit and what brands to go for there isn’t much left to intimidate you.

A Shopping Revolution

August 25, 2009 By: Mister Fixit Category: Bathroom No Comments →

Shopping is something that time has had a major effect on. It is amazing how specific some stores have become in what they offer customers. I would not be surprised to a see a store that offered only fabric shower curtain and shower curtain rods. It is a different shopping world than what people were used to years ago. They used to have generalized stores that offered people so many different options. While we do have stores like that now, you find that most stores focus on one particular product and offer unlimited types.

With such product specific stores, shopping can take much longer than it used to. Instead of going to one store and finding everything you need, you may have to stop at a bunch of places to find what you need. It greatly adds to the amount of time that people are going shopping. For some people, shopping can be a nice escape. It is a time for many people to get out of the house and do something different for awhile. With stay at home parents, the amount of time it takes to shop is not that big of a deal because they do not need to work around their job.
The internet has really made a lot of people rethink shopping. For those that work long hours and cannot get out shopping, the internet offers an alternative to going out to the store. There are no hours of operation for an online store, which means that if you need something after a long day at work, you can always have access to it. You give it a few days and your product will be delivered to your front step. You can buy so many different things online these days. No one would think to order groceries online, but there are websites that will fill your order and drop it off to your house. It is very surprising the amount and type of things that you can purchase online.

Some people don’t believe in internet shopping. They would much rather go to the stores and see the product in person or try the clothes on before they buy them. Others feel that they shouldn’t have to pay shipping and handling fees on something that they could bring home themselves. It definitely has its advantages because there are certain items that can only be bought online. However, the internet is a place where you can find many items that stores don’t carry. Their inventory online is endless because they can take items straight from a warehouse instead of just in store items. Where you shop for things should depend on what it is you are shopping for. Clothes can be tough to shop for online because you cannot try things on. Shoes are easy to buy online because the sizes are pretty universal. Shopping has changed greatly over time and it will be interesting to see if it changes even more over time.

Recognizing those who Keep things in Order

August 25, 2009 By: Mister Fixit Category: Bathroom No Comments →

Being a custodian is harder work than most people assume. Its more work than just picking up after teenagers. The man you see walking down the hallway with a Microfiber cleansing cloth is one of the biggest aspects in the school. The group of people who refill the Paper towel dispenser and Automatic soap dispenser aren’t nobodies. A school couldn’t function without its janitors. Janitors may just be more important than those who run the school. No one else is willing to their job, but no one would be okay if their job wasn’t done.

Schools need to be clean. Schools get sanitation scores just like restaurants and if they don’t pass, they can’t have students in their. There are so many things in a school that can breed germs. There are locker rooms, wrestling mats, cafeterias, bathrooms and classrooms. Locker rooms can get really nasty. You have showers and lockers that teenager leave things in. Wrestling rooms get extremely dirty as well. When the staff infection MRSA was on the rise, wrestling mats were much to blame. Without a custodian doing their job,a student could get harmed by something.
Janitors are just once example of groups of people who get taken for granted in the work force. The jobs of invisible people are some of the most important. There are lots of things we expect to be there, without realizing, that other people do for us. When you go into the office and fill up that coffee cup, do we think of who had it washed and ready for us? How often do we notice that the dirty office floor from yesterday was actually cleaned by a person?. It is as if we just assume some robot does these things, or as the sun set these things just reset.

It is just plain wrong to ignore these people. The people who work these jobs often work extremely odd and long hours. Maids and custodians don’t make a lot of money and work extremely hard. Working these kinds of jobs and not being recognized is hard for the people who work them as well. It is like the example of constantly giving and never getting anything in return. Jobs like this are known for making people feel worthless and lowly.

When using the restroom at work, or the locker room at school take a minute to recognize that someone worked hard to clean that for your use. You should realize that it doesn’t just happen. It takes an immense amount of work to keep a house or office building running. The people who clean and organize a business are they ones who make it run. There would be no business without people like this.

A person with many skill sets can help you with many different tasks

August 24, 2009 By: Mister Fixit Category: Bathroom No Comments →

For many people, the perfect household is something they will always strive for. Although many strive for this, it is not always attainable. Many things can factor into this situation, most of which are highly unpredictable. In case you feel like you need to change your home, a Naperville handyman will be able to alter anything inside your house. If you want a smaller job done such as a small lavatory, large companies like Naperville bathroom remodeling can do the job.

somebody that posses the skills of a carpenter, the coordination of a plumber and the attention to detail as a roofer can save you much time and money. This person can do most any job around your house without draining your wallet. These types of skills are often hard to find in one person, finding someone to do the job right can be even harder. Somebody with the skill set of a “jack of all trades” would be wise to keep around. This person won’t cost as much as hiring a large company to do the smallest job inside your home. It won’t be necessary to have several different people going in and out of your house and clogging up your driveway. Somebody like this who has been working in your house for a long time can be much more efficient. Once he or she has enough experience with you, this person will get to know your needs better as well as develop a better idea of what your tastes are. Since you will not have to show people around every time you have a task that needs to be completed, this will save you much time and frustration.

Another advantage to employing somebody with many skill sets is that they can do many small jobs around your home. As time goes on and people experience change in their lives, their surroundings will have to change with them. A place that is often used is the lavatory. This is a room that you use every day, no matter what your situation is. Since this is a room you spend much time in, you will want it to change with your tastes. Renovating this room is a great alternative instead of having to stare at the same old wallpaper and designs for years to come. Making small improvements to your home can be more time and cost efficient than doing it all at once or even going so far as to purchasing a new home.

Before you make any large changes or hire a huge company to take care of a job for you, take care of the little things. Taking this approach will be more time efficient as well as save you money. Because you will not have to pay a large amount of money for one big job that can take months to do, you will be able to save more money and spend more time in your home.
